The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 Erect palaces thinking that you will live for ever, 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 "And with gardens and water-springs." 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is nothing but the tradition of former people." 137 "And we will not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
