(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
