Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
