The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
