(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
