Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 Then they will say: Shall we be respited? 203 Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 The satans did not bring down this (Clear Book), 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?- 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Save those that believe, and do righteous deeds, and remember God oft, and help themselves after being wronged; and those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will be overturned. 227
