۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Are we not then to die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
