Al-Saaffaat 4 of 5
And We verily gave grace unto Moses and Aaron, 114 and saved them and their people from great distress. 115 And We succoured them so that they became overcomers. 116 And We vouchsafed unto the twain a Book luminous. 117 And We guided them to the Straight Way. 118 And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations: 119 Peace be upon Moosa and Haroon! 120 Thus do We reward the doers of good 121 they were among Our believing servants. 122 AND, BEHOLD, Elijah [too] was indeed one of Our message-bearers 123 Behold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators, 125 Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers? 126 But they denounced him as a liar, so they will surely be arraigned (for punishment), 127 Except the chosen slaves of Allah. 128 We preserved a good name for him among posterity. 129 "Peace upon Elias." 130 It is thus indeed that We reward those who do good: 131 Lo! he is one of our believing slaves. 132 So also was Lut among those sent (by Us). 133 We saved him and all his people, 134 Except an old woman (his wife) who was among those who remained behind. 135 Then We destroyed the others. 136 And surely ye pass by them in the morning. 137 And by night: will ye not understand? 138

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
