Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] 1 This is a revelation from the Compassionate, the Merciful. 2 A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail;- a Qur'an in Arabic, for people who understand;- 3 proclaiming good news and a warning. Yet most of them turn away and so do not listen. 4 They say: "Our hearts are under veils, (concealed) from that to which thou dost invite us, and in our ears is a deafness, and between us and thee is a screen: so do thou (what thou wilt); for us, we shall do (what we will!)" 5 Say (unto them O Muhammad): I am only a mortal like you. It is inspired in me that your Allah is One Allah, therefor take the straight path unto Him and seek forgiveness of Him. And woe unto the idolaters, 6 Those who give not the Zakat and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter. 7 [But,] verily, they who have attained to faith and do good works shall have a reward unending! 8
