Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] 1 This is a revelation from the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, 2 A Scripture whereof the verses are expounded, a Lecture in Arabic for people who have knowledge, 3 proclaiming good news and a warning. Yet most of them turn away and so do not listen. 4 They say: "Our hearts are under veils, (concealed) from that to which thou dost invite us, and in our ears is a deafness, and between us and thee is a screen: so do thou (what thou wilt); for us, we shall do (what we will!)" 5 Say (unto them O Muhammad): I am only a mortal like you. It is inspired in me that your Allah is One Allah, therefor take the straight path unto Him and seek forgiveness of Him. And woe unto the idolaters, 6 Those who practise not regular Charity, and who even deny the Hereafter. 7 As to those who have faith and do good works, surely theirs shall be a never-ending reward. 8
