As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate! 38 It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment. 39 So will you make the deaf listen or show the path to the blind, and to those who are in open error? (The disbelievers whose hearts are sealed, are deaf and blind to the truth). 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 Or show you some of what We have promised them. They are certainly well within Our power. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned. 44 Ask all Our Messengers whom We sent before you whether We had appointed any deities beside the Merciful One to be worshipped. 45
