Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
