Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
