Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
