Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 and those that speed along with gentle ease, 3 and the partitioners, 4 that what you are promised is certainly true 5 and the recompense shall surely happen. 6 By the heaven containing pathways, 7 Truly ye are in a doctrine discordant, 8 He is turned away from it who would be turned away. 9 Cursed be the liars, 10 Those who have forgotten in a state of intoxication. 11 They ask: When is the day of judgment? 12 (It is) the day when they will be tormented at the Fire, 13 'Taste your trial. This is what you have sought to hasten' 14 The pious ones will live amidst gardens and springs, 15 receiving their reward from their Lord. They had been righteous people before the Day of Judgment. 16 Little of the night they were wont to slumber. 17 praying at dawn for God's pardon, 18 And in their property was a portion due to him who begs and to him who is denied (good). 19 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] 20 there are signs for firm believers. Do you not see then? 21 And in the heaven lies your sustenance, and the promise you are given. 22 And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth! it is most surely the truth, just as you do speak. 23
