The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
