The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the Visited House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
