The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the swollen sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 none can avert that. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
