The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
