The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
