The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
