The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
