The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
