The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed, peace and blessings be upon him, when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
