The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
