The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
