[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 And said: "Should we follow only one man among us? In that case we shall be in error and insane." 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warnings. 33 We sent a sandstorm against them which destroyed them all, except the family of Lot, whom We saved at the break of dawn, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 They even solicited of him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes: 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
