The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
