The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
