The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
