The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
