The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
