The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
