The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
