The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
