The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and continuous shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
