The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
