A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Proclaim, "Without doubt all - the former and the latter." 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
