Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the concrete reality? 2 Would that you knew (in detail) what the Inevitable is! 3 Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry! 5 The Ads were destroyed by a swift, destructive gale 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Do you see any remnants of them? 8 Similarly, Pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 making it a Reminder for you, for all attentive ears to retain. 12 Then when the Horn is blown with one blast 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 On that day, the inevitable event will take place 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Verily I was sure that I should be a meeter of my reckoning. 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 In a Garden lofty. 22 the clusters of whose fruit will be hanging low to be within reach (of the inmates of Paradise). 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 However, those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their left hands will say, "We wish that this record had never been given to us 25 And I had not known what my account was: 26 Would it had been the end! 27 My riches have availed me not; 28 Vanished has my power from me." 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 Then, in a chain whereof the length is seventy Cubits, bind him. 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 Nor he urged on others the feeding of the poor. 34 "So no friend hath he here this Day. 35 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, 36 None shall eat it but the sinners. 37
