The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it very near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
