The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
