The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
