Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
