Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
