In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
