O thou folded in garments! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
