Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
