The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
