The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
