The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
