The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And all defilement shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
